EPAL's Laboratories and Water Quality Control Department has been accredited since 1999 according to standard NP EN ISO/IEC 17025 - 'General requirements for the competence to carry out tests and/or calibrations' for the following activities:
- Collection, preservation, and transport of water samples for human consumption and natural water for the production of water for human consumption
- Analysis of 110 water quality parameters (corresponding to 198 compounds) where some parameters/compounds have been accredited for more than one testing method
- Water testing 135 analytical methods
- Testing organic materials in contact with water for human consumption, which correspond to six methods/standards (with one of the two national laboratories holds this certification)
EPAL's Laboratories and Water Quality Control Department owns
Certificate No. L0242, which is associated with two Technical Annexes
L0242-1 regarding the sampling area and Lisbon Laboratory and
L0242-2 regarding the Vale da Pedra Laboratory.

EPAL's testing laboratories have great credibility in the Portuguese and European national sector, which is shown to exist by the institutions that resort to its analytical services, with particular relevance on a national level to the Central Administration, Directorate-General of Health, "Entidade Reguladora de Serviços de Águas e Resíduos" (ERSAR), and municipalities by means of City Halls and their Municipal Services, as well as companies belonging to Grupo AdP, among others.
